Vesselquest is a journey that involves searching for clues about the ancient past in northwestern Ontario.  See and read about interesting archaeological discoveries that have been made on the incredible waterbody known as Lac Seul.

Vesselquest acknowledges and respects Lac Seul as the traditional territory of Indigenous people from the past and present.  Approval to conduct archaeological research on Lac Seul has been granted to Brad Hyslop by Lac Seul First Nation formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by both parties.  It is an honour and privilege to share in the knowledge and stories revealed by those who have gone before us.

Vesselquest adheres to the ethical principles for conducting archaeological activities as stated by the Ontario Archaeological Society (OAS). Please note that under the Ontario Heritage Act, it is against the law for anyone without an archaeological license to knowingly disturb an archaeological site within the province of Ontario. Illegal activities include removing or keeping artifacts from a site as well as digging at an archaeological site.

ABOUT BRAD

As a lifelong resident of Hudson, a community situated on the shoreline of Lac Seul, Brad acquired a sense for adventure by exploring the waters and shoreline of this unique lake. After high school further adventures followed as Brad spent seven months backpacking through Europe on a gap year before attending Algonquin College in Ottawa and earning a diploma in photography.

Brad is available to provide an educational and engaging presentation on the topic of boreal forest archaeology. Have Brad attend your event in person or arrange for a virtual seminar via a number of on-line platforms. Upon request an interactive question and answer session can be included as a component of his presentation.
