Rock on Moss

I consider it fortunate that I am able to spend a lot of time adventuring and exploring within such a remarkable area such as Lac Seul.  I have witnessed beautiful scenery, seen amazing wildlife and discovered many interesting things as I travel around the lake.  Sometimes, there are things I encounter that make me take pause.  In 2017, while on a houseboat holiday, I was looking around the shoreline of an island the houseboat was parked at when I spotted this.

A natural rock just laying in the bush.  Or was it? First of all, the veins within the rock had an unusual patterning that somewhat resembled images I had seen of a brain.  Of course it was a rock and not a brain, but its appearance seemed strange and somewhat animistic.  Second of all, the rock looked oddly out of place nestled within a soft carpet of green moss.  Was this location the rock’s natural resting spot?  If so, why had the moss not grown up around the rock to cover and conceal its’ location?  Or had someone intentionally and perhaps carefully positioned the rock in this setting as an expression of some symbolic gesture?  I don’t know.  But the conveyed imagery of the rock on moss was both eerie and captivating.  I felt compelled to take this photo and then move on.
